Christopher Homes

A nonprofit organization

Responding to the call of the Gospel, Christopher Homes, Inc., strives to provide decent, affordable housing to vulnerable members of our community. All who are associated with Christopher Homes, Inc., have the right to respect, dignity and a sense of well being.  Therefore, through the service and commitment of our staff and volunteers, we will enable our residents to grow spiritually, socially, and intellectually, empowering them to develop their optimal potential.

Christopher Homes, the housing agency of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, has been serving the low income elderly population for more than 50 years. Today, the agency manages 21 HUD-subsidized apartment complexes that house the elderly and those with physical disabilities in nearly 2,500 apartments. Our ministry to offer not only affordable housing but a community where our residents can thrive socially, intellectually and spiritually and experience quality of life, sets us apart from other housing programs in New Orleans.

Many seniors in our local community are underserved in terms of available housing, food security, medical services and social connectedness - all of which can impact their overall health and well-being. Christopher Homes is not just a housing agency, but a ministry that is committed to finding ways and means to go beyond what is federally funded and offer more comprehensive services to our residents. We collaborate with a network of partners and other agencies of the Archdiocese to offer our residents the services they need to age in place.

Testimonials

"I'm so blessed, because I can live. I can stay here and live here and not have worries about how I'm going to have another dollar. Financially, I can't tell anyone how much Christopher Homes has helped me." Mrs. Jessie

"The meal program has been a Godsend as this may be the only hot meal I get. It gives me peace of mind." Mr. Percy

"A lot of people only have enough money to pay their rent and their bills and there is no money left for them to have food so they rely on the meal program." Ms. Gussie

"Some of the residents here cannot afford a hot meal or have disabilities that prevent them from cooking. The meal program here is good for our wellbeing and overall health." Ms. Jeanette

"If you get involved, you can have a good life here." Ms. Nelly

"Living here means that I am not alone. If I would have been in another setting, I would be inside my apartment, alone and afraid to come out. But by me being in a community with others, I can come out of my apartment and can always be greeted by a smile." Ms. Joyce

"It's a community of people who really care for each other and look out for each other." Ms. Konstance
