American Security Project

A nonprofit organization

ASP founded by a bipartisan group of senior government officials and Senators, including then-Senators John Kerry, Warren Rudman, and Gary Hart, as well as former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel to educate and inform the American public about the changing nature of national security. Our mission is to forge bipartisan consensus on national security issues, promote dialogue, and build collaboration which explores divergent viewpoints-all while engaging Americans where they live.

Our programs, and the National Climate Security Tour in particular, foster awareness of how climate change is impacting our national security. By leveraging our Board of Directors, which has retired senior flag officers from every branch of the military as well as experts from a vast array of climate and national security subject matter areas, we have been able to partner with state and local stakeholders on more than 50 events in 22 states to foster understanding of how climate change is impacting everything from disaster planning and water security to impacts on rural communities and opportunities from legislation like the Inflation Reduction act.

Testimonials

ASP's National Climate Security Tour was honored by being named a 2023 American Climate Leadership Awards semi-finalist by ecoAmerica. In addition, we have several ongoing relationships with local, state, and federal partners to help provide non-partisan research on how climate is impacting national security, military, and frontline communities across the U.S.
