Coastside on Bikes is a group of bike enthusiasts who support bike access for all Coastside community members. From pavement to parks, we are dedicated to preserving and expanding bike access and connectivity on the Coastside. We engage in advocacy and coalition-building with other local groups in order to urge agencies at the city and county levels to provide better trails and safer routes to work and school.

Coastside on Bikes is also concerned with providing bicycle access for those in our community who most rely on them for transportation. Through partnerships with local social services agencies, namely Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, Coastside Hope, Ayudando Latinos a Soñar (ALAS), and local elementary schools, we provide bike repair and donated bicycles to clients of these agencies who are in need of a bike or will rely on it as their main form of transportation. We match donated bikes with those in need of a bicycle and find volunteer bike mechanics to work on donated bikes. With the support of our youth and adult volunteers, we have refurbished and found new homes for over 300 bikes since 2021, many of which went to local ranches to be used by farmworkers. We also engage in advocacy work, and are currently working with the city and county to initiate funding for a bike and pedestrian trail from Downtown HMB to Moonridge.

The Coastside Mountain Bikers represent the branch of our organization that encourages community members of all ages to access the outdoors through the sport of mountain biking. We organize weekly rides and work with local park agencies to preserve and maintain existing trails and support the development of new trails. We encourage wide participation in the sport through women's rides, youth rides, and kids skill-building events. In 2022 the San Mateo County Parks Quarry Park pump track was completed, and this year the Coastside Mountain Bikers will hold events in order to teach youth and community members responsible trail etiquette, natural resource protection, and how to be good stewards of public lands. Coastside MTB supports the Coastside Composite youth mountain bike racing team, a team of middle and high school students who race with the National Interscholastic Cycling League (NICA). Racers are local kids who train on local trails and are supported by the organization during their Spring race series. Coastside Mountain Bikers is a member of the California Mountain Biking Coalition, an organization dedicated to creating a statewide voice for mountain bikers.

Testimonials

"We love biking on the Coastside because it's a lifelong sport and a healthy outdoor activity our whole family can do together. Being outside and on a bike is one of the best ways to leave behind the stress of daily life, and it provides yet another way to enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the Coastside environment. It's a way to teach my kids to appreciate nature and form healthy outdoor exercise habits." - Coastside rider

"While mountain biking, my kids learn good trail etiquette and stewardship, and gain a love for being outdoors rather than behind a screen." - MTB rider and parent
