Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action (CAPPA)

A nonprofit organization

The Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action (CAPPA) is a 501 C3 non-profit, community-based organization that provides youth intervention and positive development strategies to at-risk and economically disadvantaged students (K-8 grade) residing in Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.  Since 2002, the CAPPA Youth Intervention and Development project has worked to deter the anti-social activities that lead to delinquent behavior.

CAPPA’s mission is based on a simple concept: meet youth where they are, offer high interest alternatives to negative behavior, encourage civic duty, promote academic excellence, and bolster self-esteem.

CAPPA helps Williamsport area students achieve in school by providing a Saturday Performing Arts program that consist of academic support and tutoring services in math, reading and language arts, and the Young Gentlemen project, which is designed to motivate and inspire at-risk males who are not emotionally connected to the traditional educational environment between the hours of 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.   The CAPPA Saturday program is located at Cochran Primary School, 1500 Cherry Street and continues throughout the year.  Healthy snacks and lunch are also provided.

Since the pandemic, now more than ever, Williamsport families need quality, engaging, and innovative youth development programs that focus on academic achievement. CAPPA has and always will remain committed to providing quality programs that help children maintain or improve their reading proficiency, language arts and math literacy. We understand that the problem of failing students cannot be solved by schools alone.
