The Community Food Center - Tamworth & Sandwich aims to ensure that all residents of Tamworth and Sandwich have access to nutritious food. Our all volunteer staff has provided services out of St. Andrews-in-the-Valley, on Whittier Road in Tamworth, since the early 1980s. Every other Wednesday, clients are able to select the grocery items they need for the next two weeks from our shelves. In 2024 we served 85 households (5-6% of households in these 2 towns), averaging around 30 households per session.
The financial support for food, paper products, and personal items comes from town donations, and local donors, faith groups, and businesses. St. Andrew's has generously allowed us to use their facilities. The NH Food Bank (NHFB) and US Department of Agriculture provide in-kind donations of food, and other items as available. We do pay NHFB for delivery and reduced costs for some items they offer. Between 2023 and 2024, while meals supported increased by 14%, in-kind donations from these sources declined by about 10%.
