Healthcare is a right, not a privilege

Community Health & Wellness Center (CHWC) is the only
comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center in the Northwest Corner of
Connecticut. CHWC serves the healthcare needs of 24 towns through 3 health
centers, 10 School-Based Health Centers and 1 mobile van offering medical,
dental and behavioral health services to everyone, regardless of insurance
status or their ability to pay. CHWC serves over 7,000 patients annually, with
new patients enrolling every day.

Our Health Centers

Since opening the Torrington Health Center in 2002, CHWC has
expanded our main location, and added sites in Winsted and North Canaan to meet
the healthcare needs in the rural communities that we serve.

Access to healthcare services in rural areas like the
Northwest Corner can be difficult and often require trips to different offices,
sometimes a large distance from home. Our Health Centers place all direct care
and ancillary services under one roof to create a one-stop model.

Across the Northwest Corner, 65% of residents served in 2025
are living at or below the federal poverty level. With threats to the 340b drug
pricing program, changes in Medicaid requirements and rising costs of health
insurance, many people find they no longer have or can afford health insurance.
Those individuals will turn to us for help or go without services resulting in
emergency room visits and larger complications. 

In rural areas where challenges like limited access to
providers, transportation barriers and a high cost of care are abundant,
offering affordable and accessible services has become even more critical.

Your support, no matter the size, ensures that CHWC
can continue to provide care to everyone who walks through our doors,
regardless of their ability to pay for services.
