The idea behind the CommUnity Zone is right in our name: the emphasis on UNITY in our COMMUNITY. We connect people in the Central Susquehanna Valley with health and human services and programs focused on society, the arts, and culture to build strong, diverse, and thriving bonds. Our vision is a community where all individuals, organizations, and businesses share ideas, talents, and resources to create and maintain a connected, caring, healthy, and vibrant region.
We've been operating for over a decade from the heart of Lewisburg, spreading our message of togetherness and celebration throughout the Susquehanna Valley. Every week, we hope to make our programs bigger, better, and more far-reaching than ever before, and we can accomplish that with your help! We're a small nonprofit—just one part-time employee assisting our director—so every donation counts, and it's those generous gifts that make our work possible!
The CommUnity Zone proudly serves its home county of Union, as well as Snyder and Northumberland counties.
1. Maintain our space in the heart of downtown Lewisburg to continue providing high-quality programming such as the Listening Room concert series, Technology Tutoring, meeting space for our partners, and so much more. This Market Street location is also home to the Zone’s new, monthly Jazz Nights in Lewisburg, a product of the Listening Room series.
2. Launch our new program, "The Roundtable," in which community members transform their concerns with public policy into advocacy work. A key tenet of this program is our partner, the Snyder Union Northumberland Immigrant Community Support organization. We seek to uplift groups like SUN-ICS so our neighbors of all political leanings are civically educated and engaged. Mobilizing action has and will come in many forms, from dinner discussions to protests to lobbying.
3. Expand our “Music & Art For a Purpose” program, where local artists and educators facilitate theater, music, fine art, and writing workshops to community members. This program aims to advance our mission of social justice and inclusion through one of the most uniting mediums we know: the arts!
4. Contribute to community efforts such as the Juneteenth Celebration, theatre productions like "My Soul Looked Back and Wondered," and sponsor movies and guest speakers relevant to our mission.
5. Act as an incubator for clubs, new nonprofits, and individuals with great ideas to broaden their networks, develop their organizations, and have support as they make our community stronger.
