Community Academies of New Orleans

Community Academies' mission is to cultivate schools that nurture students' character and critical thinking ability in responsive learning environments, thereby equipping them to be impactful community leaders.

We have a truly unique approach to providing the most efficiently supportive and well-rounded mental health and social emotional learning services to our students and school community. The 1st tier is implemented school wide. We use a universal screener 3 times a year, to screen for trauma in our students, we teach SEL to all grade levels to support the social and emotional development of our students, and use Restorative Practices to support students learn from their behaviors and create inclusive and safe learning environment. We also partner with Community In School to provide social workers on each school campus which provide continued support to students needing individual and/or group counseling. In addition, our long-standing partnership with Children's Bureau allows our network of schools to have access to clinicians who will provide weekly counseling to students who have been exposed to trauma at school, breaking down any barriers to receiving mental health supports.
