Consumer Health Coalition

To inspire a consumer movement to enhance access to quality, affordable health care in Southwestern Pennsylvania. We further our mission by targeting populations that are at-risk for experiencing barriers to good health and health care. This includes people with low incomes, the uninsured and under-insured, and under-served populations.

At Consumer Health Coalition (CHC), we believe that access to quality, affordable health care, and ultimately good health and wellness, are critical to a person's ability to reach his or her potential. We also know that people experience disparate 'starting points' or access to resources that are unfortunately correlated with socioeconomic status, racial or ethnic background, and disability status.

CHC is dedicated to the eradication of disparities in health access and outcomes, and will continue pushing until every person has the health coverage and care they need.

CHC does this work through health care education, outreach, and advocacy. We participate in many collective efforts to create healthier communities.

Our Certified Marketplace Navigators provide free, unbiased education and enrollment assistance to individuals and families with applying for and navigating public health insurance programs, including Medical Assistance, CHIP, and the Health Insurance Marketplace. We are the lead grantee for a statewide initiative to improve Pennsylvanians' access to health coverage.

Our advocacy work focuses on both self- and systemic- advocacy as a way to impact positive change for health care. Past campaigns include Medicaid Expansion in PA, patient-centered health care, and access to transportation. Our advocacy work includes:

 Advocacy trainings and community forums
 Legislative campaigns, visits, and rallies
 Letters to the Editor and impacting the media
 Proactive Patient Trainings and bringing the consumer perspective to providers
 Photo Voice projects
