COPS 8 is dedicated to supporting the police officers of the New Orleans Police Department's 8th District, which includes the French Quarter, CBD and Marigny. It was started in 2002 by a group of concerned, appreciative citizens who wanted to show gratitude to those who protect and serve the community. Via COPS 8 they could form an alliance with the 8th District New Orleans Police to establish support and mutual understanding between the officers and the community. All donations to COPS 8 are used to purchase equipment, supplies, refreshments and more for the 8th District Police, all of which enhances their productivity and well-being. This includes educational training courses (such as active shooter and interrogation techniques), French Quarter-friendly vehicles such as bicycles and ATVs, laptop computers, cameras, printers and toner cartridges, flash drives to download surveillance footage, software to assist detectives, office furniture, air conditioners, station renovations and repairs, 24/7 bottled water and coffee, snacks, hot meals during large-scale events, uniform accessories, and so much more!
