Camp Verde Adult Reading Program

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the Camp Verde Adult Reading Program (CVARP) is to offer adults in the Camp Verde and adjacent Verde Valley communities the opportunity to achieve personal goals through improved basic reading, writing, math, technological, and life skills.

The Camp Verde Adult Reading Program (CVARP) is a volunteer-centered, community-based, Arizona non-profit corporation established in 1988. The organization's mission is to offer adults in the Camp Verde and adjacent Verde Valley communities the opportunity to achieve personal goals through improved basic reading, writing, math, technological, and life skills.
In the past, CVARP has been funded by the Arizona Department of Education. Starting in July 2017, we will lose state funding and will be required to find funding from other sources.
One of the main programs of the organization is the GED certificate preparation program. The program includes online and instructor-led classes for GED preparation.
Helping students get their GED increases their chance of getting a job with a higher salary and reduces their need for public assistance.
High school dropouts are more than twice as likely to live in poverty as high school graduates. Nearly 40% of high school dropouts between the ages of 16 to 24 receive public assistance. Arizona high school and GED diploma holders earned 23% higher annual salaries than adults without a diploma. Labor statistics suggests that 33% of all job openings and nearly 50% of all new jobs created between 2008 and 2018 will require a postsecondary degree or credential.
The Camp Verde Adult Reading Program is currently serving 47 GED students. The goal is to serve 75 students per year.

Letter of Support for Camp Verde Adult Reading Program

Friends at Camp Verde Adult Reading Program,

I just want to thank you again for helping me to get my General Equivalency Diploma. After being out of school for 40 years there is no way I could have achieved this without YOUR program. I found your entire faculty to be very encouraging, uplifting and eager to help in any way possible. I realized there were other programs that could help me achieve my goals however, they were not as user-friendly as CVARP. The thing I appreciated the most was being able to work the program at my own pace. In fact when life through me a few curveballs and I thought I would have to quit the program temporarily, I was back within a few weeks and still completed the program 10 weeks earlier than expected with all your loving support. The graduation ceremony was 'the icing on the cake', giving me such a sense of accomplishment and inspiration to start college in the 2017 spring semester where I am pursuing my nursing degree.

I am elated to hear that you are now located in the Camp Verde library, in your previous location you were a well-kept secret. I'm sure CVARP will get the exposure needed to make your program flourish and continue to bless the socks off people who desire to improve their lives with the help of the CVARP angels.

Thank you all so much for helping me realize my dreams,

Angelina Lucio
