Desert Paws Rescue

A nonprofit organization

The mission of Desert Paws Rescue is to provide a new beginning for unwanted cats and dogs who might otherwise be euthanized. We provide safe and loving foster environments for rehabilitation and medical needs, with the ultimate goal of placing our animals in new and permanent homes, while educating the public on the importance of spay/neuter and the importance of choosing the right pet for their family in an effort to reduce the population of unwanted pets in our community.

The animals that Desert Paws Rescue offer for adoption primarily originate from Owner-Surrenders. One of our initiatives is to reduce the number of unnecessary euthanasia in local shelters by preventing cats and dogs from getting there in the first place. Along with taking in animals whose owners are no longer able/willing to care for them, we also take in a great number of friendly strays that have been abandoned in local communities. Desert Paws Rescue also focuses on working with local shelters to rescue cats who have tested positive for FIV or FeLV, and are listed for euthanasia because of their diagnosis. We believe that these cats should have the same opportunity at a forever-home as those who have tested negative.

All of Desert Paws Rescue's adoptable cats and dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Cats or dogs that are deemed "unadoptable" due to special needs or undesirable behaviors are kept in foster and considered "Sanctuary" animals - meaning that they will be kept healthy, safe, and loved for the remainder of their lives.
