DBDC MISSION:

“THE DBDC WORKS TO INSPIRE COMMUNITY LEADERS TO UNITE COMMUNITY RESOURCES, TO EXPLORE BAKERSFIELD’S UNIQUE ROLE IN OIL, AGRICULTURE AND ARTS, AND TO DEVELOP ITS DOWNTOWN AS A PRE-EMINENT CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY.”

VISION:

“THE LEGACY OF OUR COMMUNITY IS BUILT THROUGH CONNECTING PEOPLE AND BUSINESS BY EMBRACING OUR CULTURE AND OUR HISTORY IN THE CORE OF OUR CITY”

Downtown Bakersfield through the years has made strides with the restoration of our city center through "Saving the Fox Theater" after being closed for ten years and The Padre which is now a four star hotel.  In addition to our arts district we now have an education, medical, government, financial and entertainment districts. With the loss of redevelopment agencies statewide the Downtown Business Association (a 501 C-6 established in 1954) formed their non-profit arm 501 C-3 Downtown Bakersfield Development Corporation in 2013.
In July of this year the DBDC will be celebrating their 12th Anniversary.
Accomplishments to date include:  1st Phase of an Urban Development Plan, HSR Station Site Planning with a 10, 20 and 30 year plan.   In addition in the process of creating a downtown parking plan.  Working to create a Clean, Safe and Welcoming area through the establishment of the Downtown Street Ambassador project with the Bakersfield Homeless Center, Garden Pathways, The Mission at Kern County and Keep Bakersfield Beautiful.  DBDC also worked with Flood Ministry's Outreach Team who are working with the Street Ambassadors to identify at risk individuals in helping Changing Lives....Changing Downtown! DBDC received a grant for additional trash receptacles (that will be maintained by the Street Ambassadors) gum buster and steam cleaning machine.    The Tree Foundation also received a grant to replace trees and add trees in pots that will be maintained by the Street Ambassadors.

DBDC has also worked with the Arts Council of Kern and Keep Bakersfield Beautiful in creating murals in the arts district along with decorative bistro lighting in the Wall Street Alley. In addition worked with the the City in creating a welcoming area with the year round lighting of the trees in the median on Chester Avenue.

Current project:

Wall Street Alley Murals

We’re reimagining Wall Street Alley as a vibrant destination in the heart of Downtown Bakersfield. This project will restore and complete a series of eye-catching murals, turning the alley into an immersive public art experience. By enhancing the alley’s visual appeal, we aim to draw visitors from near and far to explore, snap photos, and enjoy nearby local favorites like Jerry’s Pizza, Guthrie's Alley Cat, Two Goats and the Goose, Mama Roomba, Roosters, and Crash Lounge—not to mention exciting new businesses coming soon! Your support helps us create a dynamic space where art, culture, and community come together.
