Down Syndrome Association of Brazos Valley

Individuals with Down syndrome are born into an understanding and inclusive community where their abilities and potential are recognized and they thrive in the life of their choosing. Because every person deserves a chance to be their best self, we will build an inspired community, educate those around us, and create advocates for individuals with Down Syndrome.

Founded in 2002, our original name was the Down Syndrome Support Group of the Brazos Valley. Our name has changed over the decade, but our purpose remains true. We are a community of individuals and couples with Down syndrome, self-advocates, families, friends, and professionals. The DSABV relies on the power of local businesses and community members to aid in providing valuable services to members. Services include new family support after receiving a diagnosis of Down syndrome, early support intervention with occupational, speech, and physical therapists, classes for all ages, and fun social events to build and inspire community relationships. We also serve individuals with any special ability not just Down Syndrome. No one is turned away. The DSABV does not require any membership fee to join and our events are free to attend. We do not want anyone to feel they can't attend because they simply do not have the financial means. Our events include parents, siblings, grandparents, and any other family members that would like to attend. After all, it does take a village to raise a special needs individual.

My son Dillon was born with DS in 1994. There wasn't google to search for information. I had never known anyone with DS so I headed to the library and checked out books. OLD OUTDATED BOOKS full of doom and gloom. I joined the Houston DS group for information as nothing was available in B/CS. Now we have an awesome support group here, we love the families we have met and the love that is shared at the DSABV.
