In April, the anniversary of the founding of Pima is marked by a 2 day celebration - "Heritage Days." A quilt show, museum tours, family heritage displays, barbeque dinner, cowboy breakfast, patriotic music, and old west reenactments take place to bring focus on the heritage we have as a people and as individuals.
On July 4th, the museum in a cooperative effort with the city fire department and the city library, sponsors a flag raising and fund raiser breakfast. The program features patriotic music and speeches.
In October, "Fall Fest" features a chili cook-off contest and baked goods auction.
The museum opened in 1963 funded by donations from community members. Since that time, individual and family histories, anecdotes have actively been sought. This information is now available to anyone wishing to research family or individual histories of earlier generations.
The museum offers field trip tours for school classes and sponsors an essay contest for students in grades 5 - 12 writing to the theme, "What my Heritage Means to Me."
The Eastern Arizona Museum offers the largest displayed collection of Native American and pioneer artifacts in Eastern Arizona.
The museum is staffed and cared for totally by volunteers.
