We provide girls and women who have previously struggled with negative self-image, distorted body image, and eating disorders and are invested in preventing others from doing so with tools and resources to be a change agent in their communities. We train women ages 16+ to become facilitators of transformational workshops. We provide intensive training (20+ hours) for delivering programs to ages 7-11 (Love In, Shine Out), ages 12-18 (The Inner Beauty Shop), and adults (Embody Love Workshops). We also offer camps, online programming and club kits for girls wanting to demonstrate leadership in their schools around positive body image and positive self-esteem. We create brave space for conversations about how culture defines beauty and determines value, and how dismantling systems of oppression and marginalization of some bodies will liberate all of us.
Embody Love Movement needs funds to train/certify facilitators to facilitate Embody Love Movement programs at schools, after-school programs, Girls Scout troops, churches, camps, yoga studios, community centers, and more. Last year, we reached our goal of touching over 15,000 lives through our transformational programs. We need funds to provide scholarships for BIPOC to our training programs as well as to pay facilitators to offer these services to those who don't have resources to access them.
Our programs are efficacy based, wellness curricula that use psychotherapy and embodied experiences to increase self-acceptance, emotional regulation, and self-determination in girls and women. Negative internalized beauty/body beliefs have detrimental impacts on how girls view themselves as worthy and remove the possibility for them to recognize they have something unique and valuable to offer the world. Girls who do not see beauty or potential within themselves are more likely to struggle with low self-esteem, eating disorders, substance abuse and addiction, anxiety disorders, and depression. Curricula includes media literacy, changing talk from criticism to kindness, understanding how negative thoughts impact relationships, body image exercises, journaling, setting new intentions, and embracing purpose.
Facilitators must be trained to offer workshops. Our Facilitator Training is a 20-hour weekend training and certification for self-empowered women, including therapists and educators, who feel inspired to provide ELM programs in communities. Most of our facilitators are those who have previously struggled with negative body image, disordered eating, and low self-esteem and are especially armed to prevent these struggles in others. Programs include Embody Love Workshop, Inner Beauty Shop, Love In-Shine Out, Embody Love Camps, and Embody Love Clubs.
One Dallas educator recently said, My students shared with me how meaningful this experience was for them. There was a significant shift of love and acceptance within the students who completed ELIA. They exuded more confidence and kindness through both their words and their actions, and I got an enormous amount of positive feedback from the student body regarding our Embody Love Day. It was amazing to see how contagious and powerful ELM can be. - Jamie Martin, Ursuline Academy of Dallas
