EnergyCare

EnergyCare is a nonprofit organization that has been helping vulnerable St. Louisans find safety from the extremes of climate since 1983. Low-income families face impossible choices: pay for heating or buy food; fill prescriptions or use the air conditioner. EnergyCare's 40-year track record relies on developing a rapport with our clients all over St. Louis. Daily feedback comes in from the clients served over the phone, and in the field. The majority of EnergyCare's clients are women (65%), African Americans (68%), and all are living in poverty. To EnergyCare, affordable and energy efficient home ownership is the ultimate weapon against poverty, climate change, and unsafe living conditions. Our traditional emergency response programs like: free air conditioners in the summer; heaters with smoke alarm, blankets, weatherization and furnace repair assistance in winter; and year-round utility assistance with energy use counseling provide immediate results for our clients.
