Our Mission

The mission of Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans is to educate and connect children and adults with disabilities and special health care needs. Their families have access to resources, services, and supports so they can attend school, work, and thrive in their communities.

For over 34 years, Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans has provided vital resources, training, and peer support to individuals with disabilities and their families across Southeast Louisiana.

Each year, we assist thousands of families in navigating special education systems, accessing home and community-based services, understanding their rights, and building strong self-advocacy skills.

Our Services Include:

Information & Resources
We connect families to essential local, state, and national services, helping them navigate complex systems with confidence. Our Exceptional Times digital magazine, Louisiana Lagniappe newsletter, and extensive online resources equip families with accurate, timely information to make informed decisions.

Education & Training
We provide workshops and trainings on Special Education Rights, IEP development, transition planning, behavior supports, dispute resolution options, and more — empowering families to advocate effectively for their children and themselves.

Peer Support
Our staff are parents of children with disabilities or individuals with disabilities themselves. We provide compassionate, experience-based guidance, encouragement, and one-on-one support to families facing similar journeys.

Through education, connection, and advocacy, we strengthen families and build inclusive communities where individuals with disabilities can succeed at school, at work, and in life.
