The Family Life Center!

The Family Life Center began assisting families in
2008. It was started because the community needed someplace that could work as
a clearinghouse and referral center for the under-resourced families to cut
down on the duplication of services and maintain a database of all the families
and what they were assisted with.

The Family Life Center's mission is to provide hope to
individuals and families in seemingly hopeless situations. We achieve this by
coming alongside them with encouragement, education, and empowerment, moving
them from hopelessness to sustainability.  This mission is not just ours but a
collective effort of the entire community.

The Family Life Center is the initial point of contact
for individuals and families in crisis within our community. We assess their
needs and connect them to the necessary resources to move them towards
sustainability. Our goal is to keep families in secure and affordable housing, preventing
them from experiencing homelessness.

The Family Life Center assists families in various
capacities, including, but not limited to, rent, utilities, food, short-term
prescriptions, fuel cards, auto insurance (if needed), and various other
capacities. We also work out a budget plan with our families so that they can
take better care of their finances. We do not give a handout; we give a
hand-up. All our programs benefit families in crisis, and we address their
urgent needs by working with them to keep them from becoming homeless or re-housed
as soon as possible. We work with the families to help them become sustainable
so they, in turn, can give back to the community.

Remember... TOGETHER,
with your support, we are building a better community!

Who We Are

The mission of the Family Life Center is to connect temporarily under-resourced and/or unemployed residents of our community to the vast network of churches, charities, agencies, service organizations and corporate sponsors that provide programs that will enable those residents to become self-sufficient productive members of our community.

The Family Life Center is a type of clearing house that receives applications from the under-resourced residents, interviews those residents and determines that there is a legitimate need in their application.

Upon determination of a legitimate need, the Family Life Center will attempt to meet the need of that resident with the resources of the Family Life Center. If that need cannot be met by the resources of the Family Life Center then that resident may be referred to another agency or organization.

The following philosophical principles and understandings guide the daily operations in all areas and activities as the Family Life Center.
• We believe in the ability of people to solve their own problems when given access to opportunity and resources.
• We believe the resources within a community are adequate to initiate genuine renewal and redevelopment.
• We devote ourselves to the discovery and mobilization of individual and community resources and capacities.
• We believe in partnership and collaboration, therefore we hold all of the resources at our disposal with an open hand.
• We believe that our walk with God will always lead us into the community around us.
• We believe charity must be replaced by compassionate community building as a basic strategy.
• We believe the public, private and faith-based organizations of a city must all play important roles in community development.
• We believe it is better to teach a man to fish rather than to give him a fish, but best of all is "pond ownership."

We serve folks going through a gamut of situations:
Under-resourced residents include but are not limited to the following:
• Temporarily unemployed
• Elderly on fixed income
• Victims of fire, natural disasters, family violence, sexual abuse
• Victims of job related accidents
• Temporarily or permanently disabled
• People with health issues
• Temporarily without shelter
• Veterans
