FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association

A nonprofit organization

The FBI Norfolk Citizens Academy Alumni Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, separate and apart from the FBI. Our mission is to promote a safer community through outreach, education and community service in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other local, state and federal law enforcement.

We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. All the proceeds from donations support our community outreach programming. Over the coming year, we will address the growing opioid addiction crisis through outreach and education, promote cyber safety for children, increase awareness of the causes and solutions to violent extremism, and support initiatives to cultivate positive relationships between citizens and law enforcement.

Specific programs include:

·       Annual FBI Norfolk CAAA Annual Law Enforcement Symposium. This annual event brings more than 200 federal, state and local law enforcement officers together to increase professional collaboration, gain insights into threats affecting Hampton Roads communities, and develop enhanced solutions for community safety.

·       "Future Agents in Training" Teen Academy. Future Agents in Training provides a weeklong, immersive FBI experience for 16 to 18 year-olds interested in careers in law enforcement and public safety.  The academy is held at the FBI's Norfolk Field Office each summer and taught by FBI agents and their local law enforcement partners.

·       Opioid Addiction Awareness and Prevention. We partner with the FBI and Hampton Roads Opioid Taskforce to address the growing crisis of Opioid Addiction in Hampton Roads through education and outreach programs targeting parents, educators, medical professionals, community service agencies, and law enforcement professionals.

·       Community Outreach and Safety Programs. We support the FBI's community outreach mission with programs targeting at-risk youth (e.g., gang prevention, cyber-safety, building positive relationships with law enforcement, etc.); forums bringing information and training to citizens about civil rights, public corruption, human trafficking, active shooter situations, cyber security, and terrorism; and exhibitions at community events, festivals, and civic fairs.

Each year, approximately 20 Hampton Roads business, religious, civic and community-based leaders are chosen to go through the FBI's 8-week Citizens Academy, which takes place at the FBI Norfolk Field Office, Quantico, and FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. The training program teaches participants about the FBI's mission, priorities and capabilities, as well as about criminal, terrorism, corruption, cyber and other threats that impact local communities, and fosters discussions on how citizens can work together with the law enforcement community to improve public safety.

Graduates of the FBI Citizens Academy are eligible to join the Alumni Association and engage in community service leadership initiatives. Our members contribute hundreds of volunteer hours to support community service initiatives - from collecting donations for food drives, to providing sports uniforms for youth teams in under-resourced communities, to role-playing for local law enforcement and first responder emergency training programs.
