Summer Concerts in Seth Thomas Park

Since its inception in 1996, the vision of the Fine Arts Connection of Thomaston, has been to
create an organization dedicated to promoting the varied expressions of creativity in the
realm of fine arts, and to expose adults and children to the many diverse forms of art
that exist in and around Thomaston, CT such as music, writing, painting, photography and
more.

Our 9-week free summer concerts in the Park series began in 2003, and has been continuous, excepting 2021 due to COVID. The concerts are held in historic Seth Thomas Park, located on South Main Street in Thomaston.  All ages are welcome to attend.  The newly renovated Park has a music instrument play area for youngsters.  Free parking is available in the Unimetal Company parking lost across from the Park on Elm Street.

Why Should I Give to Summer Concerts in Thomaston?

Each week features a new band for the hour and a half concert, beginning at 7 pm, and runs the gamut of genres, from country to jazz, original songs to cover and tribute bands, oldies to Dixieland.  We are contacted each year by bands eager to play in Thomaston!  Since the Town of Thomaston does not contribute financially to the concert series, we work diligently to raise the funds needed to provide this free series. This year promises to
be more difficult than usual due to a recent downtown fire, which wiped out 5 businesses. The wonderful townspeople have responded with substantial financial support for these businesses, so we
are expecting a difficult year of fundraising to cover the costs of the concert series. Bands must be paid (after all, they are working musicians!!), the potty rental isn't free, and, since we provide the sound and a trained sound technician for each concert, sound equipment must be kept in working order.  To support our fundraising efforts, each year a quality program book is produced, listing program information, as well as ads from the businesses and individuals who support our efforts to bring culture to Thomaston via the concert series.

Do you collaborate with other groups?

We collaborate with the Thomaston Opera House for weather-instrusive nights.  If the Opera House isn't available, we hold the concert in the air-conditioned auditorium at Thomaston High School.  We are grateful to have these places as our weather backups.

Who plays at the concerts?

Our audiences have grown over the years.  Last year's concert series concluded with over 600 in attendance!  It is wonderful to be able to invite people to join us in Thomaston for a delightful evening outside, enjoying a great concert with friends, old and new.  With the advent of technology, some young people may never see a musician perform live, or have an opportunity to perhaps hear a new instrument. The 2026 list includes the Billy Joel Tribute group, The Stilettos, The Elderly Brothers (they're a hoot and sound good to boot!), Badfoot, the fabulous Sally Terrell and the Green Jazz Band, the country sounds of The Tradesmen, the Shed Rats, The Rakes, and this year we're introducing South Road and Steppin' Danger.  This is a not-to-be-missed lineup, and remember, the concerts are all FREE!!

Your donation ensures that we keep that tradition alive for both today, and our future generation! On behalf of all who love live music during the summer, WE THANK YOU and look forward to seeing you at the concerts!!
