Five Acres Animal Shelter

At Five Acres Animal Shelter, our mission goes beyond just welcoming in and placing animals into adoptive homes. After celebrating fifty years of service in 2023, we have our sights set on serving our community in a greater capacity, and acting as a safety net for those who need it most. 

Five Acres is one of the few shelters in the Greater St. Louis area actively accepting pets from owners who are facing life challenges and have no place else to turn. These have included community members facing financial challenges, housing crises, or severe health issues causing them to need to surrender their pets. 

Five Acres also seeks to support local rescue groups and shelters who may be experiencing overcrowding due to the severe overpopulation issue in our region. At least once per week, Five Acres arranges transports of cats and dogs from other groups to help free up space in their facilities and in turn, save more lives. 

Five Acres Animal Shelter also serves its community by operating the AniMeals Food Pantry, which provides over 3,000 pounds of pet food and supplies per month to pet owners in need.
