Morla Family's Story

Lizette and her husband were doing everything right. She’s an acupuncture physician; he’s an occupational therapy assistant. Together, they were raising two boys with special needs — one preparing for adulthood, the other still in school.

Then one day, a small change in their bank balance caused their Medicaid coverage to stop. Overnight, their sons lost access to therapies and medical care they depended on.

“It was very stressful,” Lizette shared. “Things were very, very stressful.”

That’s when they found the Florida Health Justice Project (FHJP). Our advocate, Nicole, guided them step-by-step through restoring their benefits — helping them understand what forms were needed and where to turn.

“It was an absolute godsend for us,” Lizette said. “She explained things in a way where we didn’t understand before and gave us step-by-step instructions on what to do.”
