Feed My People

A nonprofit organization

We offer basic sustenance (food, clothing, personal care items, assistance with heating and cooling needs), school supplies including backpacks, underwear and shoes for school children, and referrals to numerous services (including dental and vision care, small home repairs, legal and tax assistance, and food assistance programs i.e., SNAP). We serve approximately 24,000 economically disadvantaged individuals and families annually, primarily from south St. Louis and Jefferson Counties, Missouri. Both counties are underserved for food distribution and social services, and Feed My People is the only Food Pantry and Help Center in these areas able to provide consistent and reliable distribution hours for food, clothing, personal care items, as well as for multiple referral services. Our clientele live at or below federal poverty guidelines, or have recently experienced a life crisis requiring immediate assistance, and we serve without regard for religion or ethnicity. Services are offered on both an emergency and long-term basis. Many clients (especially our most vulnerable - those with young children, the elderly and the disabled) require our services for an extended period of time, and are supplied with pantry and personal care items every other week for as long as needed. We also help those who are employable with job counseling, advice on resume development and interview skills, and with referrals to possible positions. Due to Covid-19, the job-counseling program was put on hold, but will resume when our Help Centers are once again open for in-house services.

We also coordinate with local businesses and organizations to offer free services for our clients (flu shots, Covid-19 Vaccinations, assistance with medical prescriptions, Medicare applications, hearing exams, free mammograms, mental health issues, and dental care and prevention). We have implemented a social service internship program with area colleges and universities (St. Louis Community College, Fontbonne, Washington University, University of Missouri-St. Louis, St. Louis University and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville). We also have volunteers from area high schools and grade schools who earn service hours by volunteering at Feed My People. This is a wonderful way in which we can give back to the community. We are strongly supported by the community that we have served for 38 years. The St. Louis Area Foodbank (our Feeding America partner), Operation Food Search, and Share the Harvest are collaborators who supply us with the vast majority (over $4 million) of food and goods-in kind for our food pantries. Our 400 volunteers, who come from area religious, business, and civic organizations and schools, execute 90% of our services. We also share any excess food with other area food pantries to maximize the use of all donated food items. Feed My People is a Better Business Bureau Accredited Charity and we have attained Platinum level transparency on Guidestar. We have also been awarded the Independent Charities of America Seal of Excellence, and we have a four-star rating from Charity Navigator. 94% of our revenue is allocated to our programs and services.
