Foodbank of Southern California

The Foodbank of Southern California provides healthy, nutritious food for thousands of low or no-income food-insecure children, families, adults and seniors living in Long Beach. We provide an average of 40 million pounds of food per year through our network of non-profit agency partners who directly distribute food at their neighborhood-based sites. Our partners include shelters, youth enrichment programs, churches, employment training programs, and emergency assistance programs that independently can't handle procuring, transporting, storing, and refrigerating such large amounts of food.

The Foodbank is committed to sourcing cultural foods for the many communities that live in Long Beach. We realize that tastes vary, and we work closely with grassroots community organizations, local farmers and other food distributors to identify nutritious, delicious foods that are familiar and likely to be prepared and enjoyed by people from varying backgrounds.

Many of our recipients, despite their own struggles, give all they can to the people around them. Three volunteers from the non-profit, Care Closet--unhoused themselves--told us that they prepare meals from the food they receive from The Foodbank and then pass it out to other unhoused individuals who they know are struggling. This compassion is inspiring!
