We believe that the fastest and most efficient way to achieve our goals is through community organization, education, and constructive participation in the political process. Since 1989, Forum has been active in Louisiana by helping to pass civil rights advancement for the LGBT community.

GiveOUT to Forum for Equality Foundation and help build a state of equality here in Louisiana. Your donation will bring local advocacy work to cities and parishes across the Pelican State, defend and expand LGBT rights in the State Legislature, and educate schools, businesses and communities on the importance of equality.

And by giving to us, we want to give back to you...

ONE LUCKY GIVEOUT DAY DONOR WILL WIN A PAIR OF TICKETS TO THE ACCLAIM AWARDS: FORUM FOR EQUALITY'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY GALA THIS FALL!

What do we do?

  • We advocate for policy change at the local, state and federal levels.
  • We organize grassroots equality advocates to engage in the political process.
  • We educate the public about the experiences, values and needs of the LGBT community
  • We elect candidates committed to being champions for equality.

Accomplishments:

Advocating for change across Louisiana, such as working with our partners on Be Fair Shreveport to extend employment, housing and accommodations protections for the LGBT community and working with the NOPD to implement their first ever LGBT policy.

Protecting city employees from discrimination in Baton Rouge, Monroe, Lafayette, Bossier City, and Shreveport.

Defeating anti-LGBT legislation that would harm and restrict our rights and freedoms.

Creating coalitions, Forum for Equality was a leading partner in the Safe School coalition “Stop Bullying Louisiana” in partnership with disability, education, social justice and progressive organizations.

Engaging legislators, organizations, communities and allies across the state to ensure expanded rights for the LGBT community.

Educating communities on hate crimes, economic impact of discrimination, faith & equality through media, town halls, seminars and public forums.

Defending our rights in court such as FFELA vs. Barfield, which is suing the State of Louisiana for the recognition of out-of-state same-sex marriages.
