Imagine turning 18 and stepping into adulthood without access to essential personal documents like a birth certificate or social security card—basic items required to apply for jobs, housing, or further education. Without ever having held a job, you’d face the daunting challenge of navigating applications and interviews with no prior experience or guidance. Adding to this, you were never taught critical life skills like budgeting, cooking, or managing healthcare needs, leaving you unprepared to handle even the simplest responsibilities. Meanwhile, the outside world views you as a capable adult, expecting you to perform at the same level as your peers who have had the support and stability of family guidance. On top of these overwhelming barriers, the significant trauma you’ve endured plays a major role in your ability to cope, learn, and succeed, making every step toward independence feel nearly impossible without help.



Now imagine facing these challenges without the support system that most young adults rely on. There’s no dad to call when your car breaks down or a mom to lean on when you’re struggling to care for your newborn. You don’t have a safety net to catch you when you stumble—no family to guide you through tough decisions or celebrate your successes. Every problem, big or small, falls entirely on your shoulders, and without the emotional or practical support most people take for granted, even the simplest setbacks can feel insurmountable. For these young adults, navigating life isn’t just about overcoming obstacles—it’s about doing so completely alone. Many of our clients come to us directly from homelessness, seeking stability, guidance, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives with the support they’ve never had.




Our Mission:

Our mission is to empower young adults who have aged out of foster care by providing the resources, support, and skills needed to transition to independent living. Through trauma-informed care, mentorship, and holistic programs, we strive to create a foundation for stability, self-sufficiency, and success, ensuring every individual has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Did You Know?


  • 20% of youth who age out of foster care become homeless immediately.


  • 50% will struggle with substance abuse.


  • 70% of young women will become pregnant by age 21.


  • Only 50% will graduate high school.


  • Despite tuition waivers, just 3% will earn a college degree.


These alarming statistics highlight just a few of the challenges faced by youth transitioning out of foster care.


How Fostering Independence Makes a Difference:

We collaborate with local businesses and organizations to provide the support, guidance and tools young adults need to transition from foster care to independent living successfully. We incorporate trauma-informed care into every aspect of our program, ensuring our approach is empathetic, supportive, and tailored to the unique experiences and needs of each client.

Our Comprehensive Services Include:


  • Case Management: Individualized plans with daily, weekly, or monthly meetings to achieve self-directed goals and build independence.


  • Life Skills Training: From budgeting and cooking to driving and parenting, we equip participants with essential skills for a successful future.


  • Transportation Assistance: Reliable rides to work or school, fostering consistency and building relationships.


  • Car Savings Program: Through hard work and life skills classes, clients earn up to $2,900 in matching funds to purchase their first vehicle.


  • Basic Needs Support: Monthly groceries, hygiene products, and household supplies alleviate stress and allow participants to focus on their goals.


  • Mentorship: Dedicated mentors provide guidance and build a support system beyond case management.


Our Program Phases:


  1. Foundations: Address immediate needs, set goals, and build a plan for success.


  2. Fundamentals: Work towards milestones like employment, education, and life skill mastery.


  3. Future: Transition to independent living with secure housing, resources, and a supportive network.
