ABOUT US

Freedom, Inc. (FI) is a queer feminist non-profit that organizes within low to no-income Black and Southeast Asian communities. Our focus is on women and girls, gay, lesbian, transgender, intersex, and other queer folx.

Our mission is to achieve social justice through the coupling of direct services with community organizing. Through leadership development, community mobilization, and advancing community control measures, we will bring about social, political, cultural, and economic change. This will result in the end of violence against women, gender-non-conforming folks, as well as youth within our communities.

Freedom, Inc. works to dismantle the root causes of violence, poverty, racism and discrimination. Our belief is that people who are most affected by these issues must have voice, power, resources and choice, in order for true social change to happen.

OUR CURRENT WORK AREAS

• Protecting Survivors. We provide radical direct services, leadership development and organizing experience to Black and Southeast Asian women,  girls, and LGBTQ+ survivors of domestic violence, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and state-sanctioned violence.
• Battling Against Injustice. We advocate and organize for the rights of our communities. This may look like our many community-based campaigns, e.g., Police Free Schools Campaign, Defend Black Women, The People's Budget, No New Jails, No Cop City Fitchburg, etc.
• Building the World We Want. We honor Black and Southeast Asian cultures, experiences, and dignities. We value LGBTQI+ people. We value women and girls. We value elders, youth, and people with disabilities. No matter what, we value ALL of our people. We are actively building and practicing the world we want to live in that is supportive, transformative and liberatory.
