Friends of Metro Animal Services

Friends of Metro Animal Services (FOMAS) supports our community’s lost and abandoned pets by financially supporting Louisville Metro Animal Services (MAS).  Unfortunately, like many shelters across the U.S., MAS began 2024 in crisis and overcrowded.  Today, MAS is continuing to see record levels of intakes for both cats and dogs for the 3rd year in a row.  MAS is stretched to its limits and is struggling to cope with a relentless influx of homeless and abandoned animals. We need your help, and we need it now! 

Our programs are focused on providing capital improvements at MAS and helping to reduce the amount of time animals are in the shelter.

FOMAS Programs

Pay It Forward – Pay It Forward covers the adoption fees for cats older than 6 months, large breed dogs weighing 40 lbs. or more, and senior shelter pets.

Long-Stay Champion VIP – Adoption fees are covered by FOMAS for Long-Stay Champions (i.e., dogs that have been in the shelter 30 days or longer). Adopters also receive a free VIP package valued at approximately $250. The VIP package includes items such as: Vaccinations (3 years); Canine License (1 year); Heartworm preventative (6 months); a harness and large crate (upon request).

Waived Redemption Fees – When the shelter is full, FOMAS covers the cost of the redemption fees for owners who are reclaiming their pets. This allows owners to be reunited with their pets without the burden of additional costs.

Who We Are

Friends of Metro Animal Services (FOMAS) is a 501(c)(3) organization and is the sole fundraising entity for Louisville Metro Animal Services (MAS) in Louisville, Kentucky. FOMAS is dedicated to improving the lives of stray, abandoned, and lost animals in the Louisville community by providing additional dollars for MAS, which makes it possible for the shelter to offer services that exceed what MAS’ government budget allows. FOMAS delivers this support through funding multiple ongoing programs (such as Pay It Forward, Long-Stay Campion VIP, and Waived Redemption Fees), as well as special capacity-building projects and equipment.
