Dedicated to the preservation of the Anacortes Community Forest Lands through education, outreach, and stewardship.

Description

Formed in 1987 to stop the commercial logging of the Anacortes Community Forest Lands (ACFL), Friends of the Forest has played a pivotal role in the preservation and community engagement of the ACFL. From the creation of the Conservation Easement Program, protecting the forest from development in perpetuity, to the thousands of citizens and students that we have provided programming for, we believe that at the heart of any successful nature preservation lies connection and that time spent in nature is essential for human health as well as forest health.

As the threats to the forest have evolved, so has the programming that we provide for the community. With an ever-increasing population and constant environmental changes stemming from climate change, Friends of the Forest is committed to expanding the variety of populations we serve and programs we offer with the belief that how we treat our local environment shapes our actions and beliefs on a global scale. The conviction that all people deserve the opportunity to learn about and explore nature drives our resolution to provide all programming free of cost to the participants.
