$5,000 Goal

At just 2 years old, Ace H. from Laconia, NH is experiencing peripheral field loss due to a neurological condition. With no clear understanding of how Ace’s vision loss will progress as he ages, his preschool referred him and his family to Future In Sight. Through our Early Services & Supports (ESS) Program, Ace now works with a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI), who provides strategies to support his daily routines and development.

Melissa A., a 55-year-old from Strafford, NH, has total vision loss in her left eye due to an inoperable tumor. As an entrepreneur and a small-business owner, it has been vitally important for Melissa to have access to Future In Sight’s team of Occupational Therapists (OTs), Assistive Technology (AT) Specialists and Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialists (COMS). These specialists are providing the training and tools that Melissa needs to maintain her independence while continuing to build a career in holistic health and wellness.

Darlene P., a 90-year-old from Portsmouth, NH, has age-related Macular Degeneration. Over the last year, Darlene has worked with Future In Sight’s Low Vision OTs to remain independent at home despite her declining vision. From using her tablet as a magnifying glass so she can read her recipe cards to adding bump dots on her stove for safe cooking, the training and tools Darlene has received have given her and her adult daughters peace of mind.

Ace, Melissa and Darlene represent just three of the nearly 50,000 people with vision loss and blindness that Future In Sight has served since opening its doors 113 years ago. Our team of specially trained providers works with individuals at every age and every stage of vision loss, helping them gain, regain and maintain their independence, preparing them for an uncertain future, and remaining a resource if their vision or needs change.

Although our services are vital to the individuals we serve, the reality is that the cost of care for every individual living with a severe vision disability – including total blindness – is often an overwhelming burden. Ensuring that cost never becomes a barrier to care, Future In Sight does not deny services based on an individual's ability to pay.

This year for NH GIVES, please consider a donation to Future In Sight so we can continue to offer our programs and services to individuals like Ace, Melissa and Darlene - regardless of insurance or financial circumstances.
