Greater New Orleans Science Fair, Inc.

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to encourage independent student research in science and engineering, encourage youth to pursue science, math, or engineering careers, and to promote collaboration and interaction between area students and scientists and engineers.

The annual Greater New Orleans Science and Engineering Fair (GNOSEF) is open to 6th-12th grade students in Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes, impacting over 300 students and their teachers through participation in the fair and annual teacher workshops. Approximately half of the participants in the GNOSEF are female, and half are from public schools. Students engage in scientific inquiry or engineering design in subjects ranging from basic life and physical sciences to those that include a strong emphasis on modern technology such as Robotics and Translational Medicine. Equipment and supplies are available to students through a partnership with the STEM Library Lab. Additionally, support for teachers is provided by annual workshops, a mentoring program, and a GNOSEF Scientific Review Committee. Recognition is provided to students, teachers, mentors, and schools with cash prizes, scholarships, and trips to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) for the 4 top winners and 2 teachers, teacher/mentor awards, and special awards from over 40 individuals and organizations. GNOSEF is an all-volunteer organization and relies on sponsorships and grants.
