Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center

GNOTRC is a nonprofit, charitable organization that provides therapeutic, hippotherapy and recreational horse assisted therapy services for children and adults with disabilties in St. Charles, St. John, St. James, Jefferson, Orleans, Terrebonne and Tangipahoa parishes.

Greater New Orleans Therapeutic Riding Center is a 501C3 nonprofit organization that is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of children and adults with disabilities through a unique combination of equine-related therapy, recreation and education. We serve the St Charles, St John, St James, Jefferson, Orleans, Terrebonne and Tangipahoa parishes. GNOTRC is governed by a Board of Directors, and is a member center of PATH Int'l, the governing body of the therapeutic riding industry.

To see children and adults with disabilities ride horses is truly an unforgettable experience. Not only do they sit taller and smile more, they extend their dreams beyond the confines of their disability into new, unexplored worlds. Riding exercises the spirit as well as the body. Therapeutic riding is recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association and the American Physical Therapy Association.

The benefits of therapeutic riding are available to individuals with just about any disability, including: muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, visual impairments, down syndrome, cognitive disabilities, autism, learning disabilities, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, and emotional disabilities

The GNOTRC has been a God send for my daughter, Kylar. Kylar has Prader-Willi Syndrome and one of the symptom is extremely low muscle tone. Kylar's main doctor in Florida stresses HIPPO therapy to all her patients. Dr. Miller states, "there is nothing that builds core muscle like HIPPO therapy to individuals who are low muscle tone. All core muscle are activated when a patient has to try and remain sitting upright on a horse." Kylar started HIPPO therapy around 2 years old.
