Dubuque Senior High Educational Foundation

The DSHS Educational Foundation, a non-profit committee comprised of teacher, parent, and alumni volunteers, continues to assist classroom developments, educational opportunities and individual scholarships through the support of our Ram Fam community. Dubuque Senior High School faculty and students are proud of the diverse, progressive educational environment and fine arts opportunities available. These are afforded largely by the DSHS Educational Foundation as budget funding is continually decreased and inadequate to support field trips, classroom technology, fine arts improvements and other such educational enhancements. The DSHS Educational Foundation is able to fund classroom resources and experiences through hosting various fundraising events throughout the year.

With money from the Ed Foundation, I was able to purchase fidgets and stress balls and the containers for each of my classroom tables. Not only do students have supplies such as pens, highlighters, and sticky notes right in their workspace but the fidgets have helped many students in moments of anxiety or needing to expel extra energy. I am aware of only a fraction of what they have purchased for other departments and activities, but understand it is substantial. For the science department, the resources secured through the Foundation are those of which we would have never been able to purchase. Students of all grades, ability and interest have benefitted from the money spent on unique and valuable tools to be used in the classrooms and labs. One of the more immeasurable side effects is how the teachers feel once a request reaches its destination in the classroom. Teachers become energized when they present allowed to present students with material in new and innovative way. The Ed Foundation often heightens the level of enthusiasm with which a lab or activity is conducted. This year the department requested 5 items that we find to be essential to teaching specific classes. Without the Ed Foundation, the items asked for would just never be available to the teachers. "The Dubuque Senior Educational Foundation has been a great support for the Fine Arts at Senior! Within the art department their fundraising success has led to the purchase of equipment that adds to what we can afford with our school budget and allows us to enhance our art experience for our students. This year alone we are able to purchase a Polishing Cabinet that sets up an additional station for Art 3D students as they are creating one of a kind jewelry pieces. We are also getting a set of 24 Aluminum Travel Easels that can be used by Art 2D students in the classroom to work vertically when drawing and painting or can be used for display of artwork for an event or space. A Canon digital camera and bundle of equipment adds another camera to our classroom set allowing another student access both in class and to take home. These all add to the opportunities we can provide for our Senior Rams and are thankful to the Foundation for the opportunity to purchase them!" -Steffany King
