Golden Comanche Indian Tribe

A nonprofit organization

The Golden Comanche Indian Tribe is a 501c3 organization that fosters and cultivates the culture and history of the Mardi Gras Indians' thru arts and culture programs for people of all ages. Our organization realizes that music is an important and powerful tool that aids in everything from developing language skills to increasing your IQ.

Our Masking Indian Program is designed to facilitate the transmission and important knowledge about the culture and history as well as invaluable skills in the art of sewing, music, and dance. Whether servicing youth whose very own family and neighborhoods birthed this amazing culture, or simply teaching kids more about what it means to be from New Orleans, the cultural program bridges the arts, history, and cultural awareness of the masking Mardi Gras Indian. We feel it is vital for children of all backgrounds and cultures to learn and develop relationships with the long-time leaders of their neighborhood. We offer children ages 5-and up predominantly from low income families the rare experience to learn about and take part in a cultural tradition that dates back to the 19th century and far earlier which is a tradition that for much of its history has remained a closely guarded secret.
