Goodwill SOLAC: A Legacy of Empowerment

History

Founded on the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive through the power of work, Goodwill Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (Goodwill SOLAC) has been transforming lives for over 90 years.

Our roots trace back to 1902, when Reverend Edgar J. Helms began a movement to lift individuals out of poverty through job training and employment. Amid the Great Depression, Goodwill SOLAC was officially established in 1929 to provide support for out-of-work individuals and people with disabilities.

In 1945, following World War II, we expanded our mission to assist returning veterans with workforce reintegration. Since then, we've remained committed to supporting those with the greatest barriers to employment.

Today, Goodwill SOLAC continues to empower individuals through education, career training, and job placement, with 87-89% of revenue from donated goods directly supporting our programs.

It’s been a successful, long-term partnership because our missions are aligned: to help both the caregivers and the clients. The training is thorough, compassionate, and prepares individuals for real-world challenges in healthcare."
