Goodwill-West Texas

A nonprofit organization

Goodwill-West Texas is more than a place to donate used household goods and clothing. Goodwill® changes lives to fulfill our mission "to provide opportunities for people with barriers to employment". Goodwill empowers people to reach their potential, improving the lives of their families, and contributing to the growth of our community. Work is truly the catalyst for change and provides hope, dignity and self-sufficiency to impact individuals, families, and communities.

87 cents of every single dollar spent on donated items at our stores directly supports our mission to provide opportunities for people with disabilities or disadvantages in life to find employment.

These programs include:

1. Retail operations employment - Over 67% of our 300 employees have a documented disability or disadvantage. These employees represent 14 stores in 10 cities across 35 counties in West Texas.

2. Work Again West Texas - We work with people to overcome the barrier of homelessness to find hope, dignity, and self-sufficiency through a job. They work with our career center specialists in our FREE career center to learn job skills. These services are provided because of the money made through the sale of donated goods in our thrift stores. Thrift stores that are run by your neighbors. Local people with disabilities and disadvantages that were given a second chance at Goodwill.

3. E2: Environmental Efforts - since 2011, we have kept over 1.2 million pounds of e-waste out of the landfill and have 2 employees dedicated to processing electronic donations.

4. Career Center - we offer services for those in the community who need a job with FREE resume writing, computers for job search assistance, interview skills training, job placement and retention follow-up. We helped place over 200 individuals in positions in our communities last year and we have a goal of 500 this year.

5. Supportive services and Work Adjustment Training - we have a dedicated case manager who focuses on those with documented severe disabilities to acclimate them to a work environment and to create a position specific to them. We have a goal to place 50 people though this program this year.

6. Youth Ahead - we work with at-risk youth to teach them life skills and job skills to give them a better outlook on life and to become positive contributors to our communities.

7. On-the-Job training - we offer a 7-week internal program called "Good Life" that teaches life skills training for areas like budgeting, financing, digital and computer skills and leadership skills. We also offer additional classes to help add skill sets to the resume's of our employees like: forklift training and oversized vehicle drivers safety training.

These are just a few of the programs that we offer, and 87 cents of every dollar directly funds these programs. They help us fulfill our mission to provide opportunities for people with barriers to employment.
