Got Green

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Got Green organizes for environmental, racial, and economic justice as a South Seattle-based grassroots organization led by people of color and low income people. We cultivate multi-generational community leaders to be central voices in the Green Movement in order to ensure that the benefits of the green movement and green economy (green jobs, healthy food, energy efficient & healthy homes, public transit) reach low income communities and communities of color.

Description

VISION: Got Green envisions healthy communities where people of color and working-class families work together and practice self-determination where we live, work, learn, and play. We envision healthy communities where all people:
1) Work meaningful jobs that nourish our earth and our souls;
2) Eat healthy food that celebrates our cultures and is grown with dignity;
3) Live in safe and sustainable housing and are rooted in resilient neighborhoods;
4) Care for our ecosystem with a transformative relationship to land and each other.

GOT GREEN is a people of color-led grassroots environmental justice group located in South Seattle. We engage, recruit and build leadership among low income workers, people of color, and young adults in SE Seattle and beyond into South King County. Additionally, Got Green engages in community-based research, wages grassroots campaigns and participates in numerous coalitions and alliances.
