Mission

Great Peninsula Conservancy is an accredited nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting the natural habitats, rural landscapes, and open spaces of the Great Peninsula region of West Puget Sound, Washington.

Description

Great Peninsula Conservancy protects vibrant forests, streams, shorelines and community greenspaces. Together with our conservation community, we ensure wildlife and people enjoy the many benefits of nature well into the future. We commit to caring for the lands we protect and we enrich lives by offering opportunities for people to experience nature close up.

Conservation: Great Peninsula Conservancy is your local land trust! We protect land by working with community members to purchase properties outright and assist partner organizations to conserve land. Often this happens because of the willingness and passion of landowners to conserve their own land. To date we have preserved over 11,700 acres of evergreen forests, salmon streams, marine shorelines, and community parks.

Stewardship: GPC's stewardship team is in the field caring for these lands. We monitor every property we protect on an annual basis with the help of Volunteer Land Stewards. Regular work parties give community members an opportunity to connect with and care for their local ecosystems.  

Community Engagement: The flagship of Great Peninsula Conservancy's engagement work is our education program, Land Labs, which brings underserved youth to GPC preserves to engage in participatory science and connect to nature. We also host monthly Walk & Talks, free opportunities for community members to visit the lands we protect and learn from local experts.
