Every parent who has a child with autism worries “what will happen when my child becomes an adult with autism”. The Greengard Center was founded by Dr. Barbara Frankel who knew how crucial it was to address this question because she, too, is a parent of an adult with autism. Dr. Frankel was committed to ensuring her son would have access to quality adult services and, with that, she founded The Greengard Center.
Located in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Greengard Center provides unique, lifelong opportunities for individuals with autism. Our program is grounded in an evidence-based and compassionate approach, providing a safe, comfortable and enriching social environment that will promote learning, belonging and independence.
"Greengard is like a family, although professional, we are a small group that all get to know each other very well. Getting to feel like a part of something bigger than myself is what life is all about. I don't regret anything about working here at Greengard. It truly feels like a second family and provides me consistent joy whenever I'm working with the residents, no matter how I may be feeling outside of work!" - Justin, Residential Lead Staff at Greengard
"The quality of the Greengard staff is amazing. From Day 1, the staff has been professional, well trained, communicative, enthusiastic and warm. Their programs and facilities are of the finest quality and ensure their participants and staff thrive."
- Nancy, parent of individual at Greengard
"I chose to work at Greengard because I wanted to make a difference in someone's life. Each milestone in the individual who I work with's day to day reminds me of why I do what I do. My favorite part about working at Greengard is the supportive community and the connections I have made. Since I started I have felt as I can turn to any one of my coworkers or administrators for guidance or aid." - Maddy, Therapeutic Instructor at Greengard
"Greengard's mission speaks directly to what is important in life; helping people live their best lives. I feel lucky each day that I get to work with such amazing individuals who make me a better person! All the folks that we get to help everyday are truly the best!" - Staff Member at Greengard
"My main goal in life is to help people. Everyone at the Greengard Center for Autism is dedicated towards helping their clients be as happy, healthy, and independent as possible. We all want to help others and I enjoy working at a place where my colleagues share similar values." - Emily, Therapeutic Instructor at GCFA"Last Thanksgiving's potluck gathering was very memorable and special! I'm so thankful for Greengard's unique and groundbreaking vision!" - Christine, parent of individual at Greengard
"Through COVID when so many other programs put services on hold, Greengard continued to provide opportunities for P to get out of the house, see friends and continue his program. The consistency was incredible. The staff is currently and has been amazing and as flexible as possible. Their commitment to the members of the Greengard community is wonderful. Making the choice to have P at Greengard has been one of the best decisions we have made for ourselves and our son."
- The Bannisters, parents of individual at Greengard
The Greengard Center For Autism provides services to promote continued education, access to recreation, and always strives towards community acceptance and participation.
"The variety of activities that P participates in is amazing. He volunteers, he is active with CrossFit and swimming, and the cultural activities are the kind we would take him on ourselves - museums, plays, local educational activities and just regular fun!" - The Bannisters, parents of individual at Greengard
"Some favorite outings of mine involve visiting the local farms in the area. I love contributing to other locals and seeing the farm animals is always so fun! Spending time with the individuals we work with is always so special - I love when E sings silly melodies that I've never heard before and soon after breaks into a fit of giggles. He can really light up a room" - Kirstin, Residential Lead Staff at Greengard"Greengard provides a meaningful opportunity for me to thrive in a person-centered environment, where I can offer support, encouragement, and make a positive impact on those around me. I am deeply inspired by watching participants grow, succeed and find fulfillment in their everyday experiences. I look forward to seeing job opportunities expand and become an inclusive and accepting workforce f…
