The H.O.P.E. Story
At forty, Jeanette Cartwright's life was turned upside down. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she found herself facing a completely different world, where simple life activities such as laundry, food shopping, and housekeeping were overshadowed by the devastating physical, emotional, social, practical, and financial aspects of her cancer diagnosis. Luckily, she had her best friend, Barb, to help her navigate and manage these demands. However, she soon realized that not everyone was as fortunate as she was.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in America, and millions of individuals will face the same concerns as Jeanette. Unfortunately, thousands of people will struggle to manage their treatment and recovery due to a lack of support from family and friends. To address this problem, Jeanette and Barb created H.O.P.E. (Help with Oncological Problems and Emotional Support) to provide high-quality, hands-on, heartfelt assistance and support to patients and their families. As an established non-profit organization in York County since 1994, H.O.P.E. delivers an array of support activities designed to ease the challenges associated with cancer. Through its staff, dedicated volunteers, and community partnerships, H.O.P.E. offers various types of support, including meals, groceries, help with transportation, cancer-related accessories for women, in-home support services, and emergency monetary assistance. Besides physical assistance, H.O.P.E. provides families with emotional support through monthly support groups. H.O.P.E. aims to help patients achieve better outcomes during their cancer journey by providing a robust social support system.
H.O.P.E's Dream
The H.O.P.E. Haven is a place where families and patients dealing with cancer can escape and forget about their illness, even if it's just for a little while. It's a tribute to Jeanette Cartwright's vision, and a testament to Barb Titanish's dedication. Spread across 18 acres, the Haven offers accessible walking trails, a tranquility garden, a beautiful clear-blue in-ground pool, and a fire pit. With three suites, a country kitchen/dining room, a living room library, and a game room, patients and their families can enjoy a serene and comfortable environment. The Haven also provides prearranged services such as counseling, spiritual guidance, and massages. It's a place of respite where families can take a break from the stress of cancer treatment and enjoy some quality time together. We understand how challenging it can be to cope with a cancer diagnosis, and we're here to support you in any way we can.
