Home Sweet Home From Rental to Home Ownership Program:
We are the Long Family. We were the first family to complete the Home Sweet Home Rental to Home ownership Program. HandUp's program offered us the opportunity to become homeowners! We completed a program that offered informational classes on budgeting, credit and mortgage counseling. HandUP renovates homes and after the renovation rents the homes at an affordable price. Then offers the renter to complete the program in 2 years or less to purchase the home. Being a part of the Home Sweet Home Program has been a tremendous blessing to my family. We went from renting a home to being able to buy it in a year. I remember bringing the boys into the home for the first time and they were running around frantically so excited that this was their new home. Grayson kept saying this is our new home this is our house!!! I can't wait to move in! Our home is beautiful and more than I could have ever imagined. Since buying the home, we fenced in the back yard, put up a play center and trampoline so the boys can run freely and play. We have spent many hours by the fire enjoying friends company. We can't wait to see how our future unfolds as we grow our family in our home.
The Path
The PATH is a lesson ministry that HandUP created that is a spiritual and emotional healing program. The PATH is for anyone with hurtful memories of their past.
" Since taking "The Path", I have learned to love myself more and I am no longer a prisoner of my past. This has been very healing to my soul and heart. I have learned so much about myself and how I once saw myself. I am no longer that person anymore. I am a healthier person since participating! It was a wonderful class to heal from past trauma!!!" Since 2004, HandUP Foundation has been at the forefront of providing much needed services in the Susquehanna Valley Region. HandUP offers help by supplying a hand up not a handout approach. The foundation helps our community to thrive and services the most tremendous circumstances and challenges with solutions and integrity for each individual. We have assisted with financial setbacks offering financial classes and funding for utilities through our “Assistance Program.” A “Vehicle to Work Program” lessens the economic impact on persons with a lower income providing opportunities to volunteer in return for a vehicle to travel to and from work. HandUP Foundation’s “Home Sweet Home Program” assists with minor repairs and has renovated several homes into rental properties for lower income families. People coming out of the prison gets a “restart” as the foundation offers short term employment and resources for housing. On a daily basis, we have people serving their community service hours at the foundation. Fighting hunger, the HandUP Milton Food Bank offers emergency food baskets and regular foodbank hours for those in need. We partner with Penn State Extension for cooking classes and nutritional information. Local agencies that offer special programs to persons with developmental and physical disabilities utilize the foundation for job training.
