Happened By Chance Horses Inc

Happened by Chance Horses is deserving of donations due to its dedicated mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming neglected, abused, and abandoned horses, often taking in severe cases that other rescues might not.

The organization, founded by Linda Nemec, operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, making all donations tax-deductible. Since its inception in 2014, Happened by Chance Horses has successfully rescued over 400 horses, with the majority being rehabilitated and adopted. They currently care for 34 horses, which come from various challenging situations, including auctions, owner relinquishments, county agencies, seizures, and as strays.

A core aspect of their work involves comprehensive rehabilitation. Each rescued horse typically spends at least a year at the facility, where their health, attitude, and training levels are thoroughly assessed and addressed. This includes careful weight-gain regimens for starved horses, therapeutic treatments as needed, and retraining from the ground up for suitable candidates. Horses are prepared for various roles, such as trail horses, companion animals, or therapy animals, with some even becoming permanent residents if deemed unsuitable for adoption. The organization also maintains contact with adoptive owners to ensure the horses' continued safety and well-being.

The inspiration behind Happened by Chance Horses stems from Linda Nemec's personal experience with her special-needs son, Chance. Witnessing the profound connection between Chance and a horse motivated Nemec to extend this healing power to other horses in need, applying her philosophy of "never giving up" to these animals. This deep personal commitment is reflected in the testimonials from volunteers and adopters, who consistently praise Linda and her team for their tireless dedication, compassion, and expertise in transforming the lives of these "broken" horses. Many volunteers describe the rescue as a "sanctuary" and a place where they witness remarkable recoveries, even in cases where horses were on "death's door".

Furthermore, Happened by Chance Horses actively engages in community education, informing people about the significant responsibilities of horse ownership, including their lifespan, nutritional needs, and wound care. They emphasize the dedication required to provide a horse with a wonderful life, highlighting the reciprocal benefits horses offer.  The organization's commitment to taking in the "worst of the worst cases," including those from the slaughter pipeline, and investing "heart, sweat, tears, and money" into every horse underscores their profound impact and deservingness of support.

The photo above are why we exist as a rescue and also show what we as a rescue can achieve. Pictured above is Oaklee, a senior mare that was brought to our attention as she was going through our local auction.   Her future was bleak.  We stepped in and within 3 short months you can see the difference in her.

We specialize in these tough cases, from emaciation to wounds to special needs. We do not reject a horse for any reason. We try to help as many as we can. With your help we can continue. We do try to place the horses that come through our doors in a forever home, however some are given sanctuary at the rescue for the remainder of their life.
