$10 provides one nutritious meal for a senior.

Imagine living alone, aging in place with limited mobility, no easy way to leave your house, get groceries, and no one checking to make sure you're okay. For hundreds of seniors across Cheshire County, that’s a daily reality, until Meals on Wheels arrives at their door.

Meals on Wheels at HCS delivers over 90,000 meals each year to seniors and individuals with disabilities across our region. Although Meals on Wheels' impact begins with a meal, the program delivers so much more. The drivers deliver nutrition, safety checks and vitals human connection to neighbors who might otherwise be without any social interaction. 

“The Meals on Wheels service includes every chore of getting a healthy meal prepared for a senior person. The food for the meals is planned, gathered, cooked, packaged, and delivered,” said Joe, a Cheshire County Meals on Wheels recipient. “Even if my family was here, they couldn’t show up every day to help me with my meal, so in many ways, Meals on Wheels is also a gift to my whole family."

Our Meals on Wheels recipient represent some of the most at-risk residents in Cheshire County (December 2025 Survey):

82% live alone 

38% tell us that their delivery drivers is the only person they see each week. 

72% live below 150% of the federal poverty level, limiting their ability to purchase or prepare adequate food

46% report eating less on days they do not receive meal deliveries, placing them at risk of malnutrition

68% report having no family available to help with food access
