Helping Hands for Animals is a no-kill organization established in 1993 to address the pet overpopulation problem and to promote education and awareness of prominent animal issues. For several years we implemented a reduced rate spay/neuter program. In 2014, we launched our own spay/neuter clinic designed for feral, free roaming and community cats as well as unconfined pet cats. Every cat brought to us is spayed or neutered, given rabies and FVRCP (distemper) vaccinations, treated with Revolution (flea, roundworm/hookworm and ear mite treatment) and ear-tipped for identification as a fixed animal.
For 31 years, we have educated the public and provided help with managing feral cat colonies through TNR (Trap, Neuter & Return). Feral cat colonies can easily get out of control in a short period of time. The TNR method can prevent this from happening. Altered cats are much healthier, and with the help of caring people to provide them with food and shelter and keep a watchful eye out for any possible problems, they can live contentedly for many years.
We also promote and enforce the humane care of dogs in Lancaster County's puppy mills, along with any other abused or neglected animals who are reported to our volunteer Humane Society Police Officers. Many of these reports involve horses who are over-worked to the point of heat stroke in the summer, or at any time of year, lack basic care such as having their hooves trimmed and their teeth floated. We receive reports of horses who do not have proper shelter and suffer from rain rot as a result.
Helping Hands for Animals depends on the public's concern and contributions to help us achieve these goals. We are not affiliated with any other animal organization and do not receive subsidies from local, state or federal government agencies. Your entire contribution always goes directly to helping needy animals.
Helping Hands for Animals seeks volunteer veterinarians and technicians to help support our veterinary staff. With your support, you will make it possible for us to accomplish more for our community, be more efficient and help us provide the best possible care to our feline patients.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to help our cause in a critically important way.
