Going to college or a trade school is a huge accomplishment! However, it can be expensive and a source of immense stress if you are unable to cover the indirect expenses associated with going to school. HenRose Cares' was established on August 10, 2020 by Tanisha Luckett as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing direct support to current undergraduate,
community college and trade school students from underserved communities. Through crowdfunding and the support of community partners, HenRose Cares raises funds directly
for students to apply for a specific need. We help students coming from low-income backgrounds fill the funding gap that is associated with post-secondary education. We help them focus on their studies and not the financial hardships they face. We have helped over 230 students through our college send off and our student support initiative.
Our key objectives are to:
1) Support students from low-income communities currently pursuing educational + technical postsecondary advancement
2) Ensure they have the essential resources to be successful
3) Reduce the out-of-pocket costs for basic educational/professional necessities, preventing financial
hardships and student loan debt. These supports will allow students to successfully complete their
postsecondary education or training with less debt and more disposable income.
Programs
Student Support Initiative - HenRose Cares assists with emergency needs that a student cites as
impacting their education, including:
• gift cards for food, groceries & toiletries
• textbook purchases
• laptops and/or wifi access
• credential/license fees
• public transportation cards
• direct assistance with utility bills
• school supplies
• direct assistance with housing/rent (limited funding)
College Send Off - HenRose Cares provides St. Louis students who are Pell grant eligible with some
necessities and prizes they need before they start college. The goal of this event is to ease the
burden of getting the necessities they need to go to college while the community cheers them on. We
