Heritage Community Initiatives

For over forty years, Heritage Community Initiatives has been dedicated to making a positive impact on the socioeconomic mobility of thousands of individuals and families through programs in Transportation, Education and Nutrition. Heritage is privileged to be a cornerstone in the region for those who are under-resourced in eighty communities throughout Allegheny County.

Heritage Community Initiatives is the only human services nonprofit in Pennsylvania dedicated to directly addressing three key constructs of socioeconomic mobility - transportation, education and nutrition. A recent study conducted showed that the economic and societal impact of Heritage Community Initiatives results in over $33 million dollars infused into the regional economy each year.

Heritage Community Transportation, a fixed-route transportation service, allows people to get to work, healthcare, retail, PRT stops, and more for only 25 cents a ride. HCT has provided more than 1.6 million rides in its 25 years in operation.

Heritage Education Programs serves nearly 300 largely at-risk children annually through its highly accredited, academically based education programs at Heritage 4 Kids Early Learning Center and HOST (Heritage Out of School Time). These nationally renowned programs, led by professional educators, ensure education is within reach for all area families.

Nearly 200,000 meals are served each year by Heritage Nutrition Services where 100% of meals served help address food insecurity in our region.
