Home is Here NOLA

A nonprofit organization

Home is Here is a grassroots nonprofit organization that cultivates community-based systems of support with newly arriving immigrants and those impacted by immigration detention in the Gulf South. We leverage the power of relationship and community to foster personal connections that become the basis for lasting individual, community, and systemic change. We are focused on building sustainable community capacity in the areas that newly arriving immigrants identified as areas of high need and impact -relationships, housing and legal aid

Our Values and Work

We believe each person is a place of refuge.

We exist to build new ground through community-based systems where immigrants belong, contribute, lead, and have equitable access to the relationships, resources, and infrastructure they need to thrive.

We serve as a regional coordination hub for the reception and resettlement of newly arrived immigrants ineligible for mainstream services. Our role is to grow our collective capacity to thrive by mobilizing people and strengthening community support systems for all.

Testimonials

"After what I went through in my country, I didn't expect this. I left detention broken. They treat people very badly [inside] there. Due to the constant cold and severe stress during detention, even after I was released, I had health problems, insomnia and anxiety. I feel a little better now, but I am still suffering in my body. I don't wish detention on anyone".
