Support Highland School during Give Local Piedmont!

At Highland, our mission is to “prepare students to thrive, lead, and serve in a diverse and dynamic world.” This year, we’re focusing on our beloved field studies and experiential learning initiatives. More than ever, we need to strengthen our current programs and build new capacities that will expand and support the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of our students and families.

One of the best ways we can support our students is to challenge them to get outside their comfort zones while surrounding them with caring, consistent adult relationships. Research shows that children who have supportive adults in their lives do better than those who do not. Help us support this signature program during this year's Give Local Piedmont event!

This year's Give Local Piedmont, held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, is a great opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of our students.  Please follow the Highland GLP donation link above to make a gift now. When you support field studies and experiential learning at Highland, you are helping us create meaningful experiences for our students. Thank you in advance for your generous support of this year’s Highland Give Local Piedmont campaign!

Our Mission

Highland School prepares students to thrive, lead and serve in a diverse and dynamic world, developing essential skills and character by challenging them with a demanding academic and co-curricular program.

To carry out this mission, Highland School has assembled thoroughly modern facilities; a large, diverse, and highly qualified staff; a student body ready to meet the challenges; and an academic philosophy and strategy that makes maximum use of these resources.

The School seeks students who are intellectually curious.  Students are selected on a basis of academic potential, without regard to race, color or creed.  Entrance to the school is based on the candidate's academic level and aptitude are on his or her ability to work as an individual as well as cooperatively in group settings.

More About Us

At Highland School, our philosophy is informed by the Mission and rooted in four core beliefs:

  1. A well-rounded education delivered in a nurturing environment is the best preparation for college and life beyond.
  2. The School strives to discover the promise and potential in each student.
  3.  The student-teacher relationship and community responsibility are at the center of the learning experience.
  4.  Character development is equal in importance to academic development.

We define leadership broadly so all students can see potential in themselves as a leader. The honor code and the school-wide character themes are the covenants necessary for students to participate in the Highland community where trust and integrity are essential.

Testimonials

"Highland is a place where our kids never get forgotten or lost in the crowd. That’s because the teachers continually cultivate a culture of care toward each individual student."

"Highland’s recent collaborations with Morgan’s Message, a nonprofit focused on mental health for student-athletes, has helped me have more open conversations with my daughter about her value, her identity, her goals, and the potential pressure to compete at a high level. Over the years at Highland, I have seen such a huge improvement in her level of self-confidence and the ways in which she manages stress. I truly believe that’s because the school takes an interest in her growth as a person, not just as a student!"

"Highland is a place where our kids never get forgotten or lost in the crowd. That’s because the teachers continually cultivate a culture of care toward each individual student."

"College is fantastic but it has its fair share of obstacles, and being able to overcome them and learn in the process is vital. I had a handful of teachers at Highland who supported me and encouraged me to embrace these difficult times and to persevere through them."

"Highland’s holistic and experiential approach to education brought to light the beauty of the small moments in life – those that often don’t make it into a resume, GPA or job description."
