Hopkins House

A nonprofit organization

The Summer Discovery Camp is an exciting new enrichment project at Hopkins House designed to help 4- and 5-year olds, who are transitioning to kindergarten in the fall, explore and understand the world around them through fun learning activities in basic science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

The camp is divided into two 6-week sessions and includes fun-filled daily learning activities and weekly trips to the airport, aquarium, museums, and parks.  Each session culminates with a science fair hosted by the campers to share what they learned with their family and friends.

Exposing children to STEM concepts and digital technologies during the summer prepares them for success in elementary school in the fall and achievement in later life through acquisition of important skills like:

* Independent Thinking

* Inquiry & Discovery

* Understanding Rules & Principles

* Following Routines

* Multiple Intelligences

Your gift of $50, $75, $150 or more provides a scholarship to help defray a portion of the camp tuition for children of low-resourced working and military families.

Since 1939, Hopkins House has been a trusted place for children, youth, and adults to learn, grow, and thrive. Every year, hundreds of families count on us for high-quality early education, before and after school care, and career-building programs.

As parents return to work, their “Young Scholars” are returning to the Hopkins House Preschool Academy — a nationally accredited, Virginia Quality-rated program ranked among the top in the region. Here, children learn in a safe, nurturing environment guided by an exceptional team of educators.

But for many families, especially those from working-class, military, and low-resourced households, the rising cost of living makes quality childcare — a cost that can exceed $22,000 a year — simply out of reach.

Last year, thanks to generous supporters like you, Hopkins House awarded $95,921 in tuition and financial assistance to families in need. Yet the demand continues to soar:

In just one year, the number of families seeking help has grown 240%, from 134 to 323.

That’s why this Spring2ACTion, we’ve set a goal to raise $8,500 for our Preschool Academy Scholarship Fund.

Your tax-deductible gift of $50, $100, $250, or any amount you can give, will help ensure that every child — regardless of their family's income — has access to the high-quality early education they deserve.

Donate today and be the reason a Young Scholar gets a strong start in life.
